How I find Gratitude When I am Sick

This past weekend I had the stomach bug. Of course it happened in the middle of the night and of course it was a weekend that I was working my usual nurse job.

As I am sure you are aware, being sick is no fun. I was weak. I was tired. I was nauseous. Every time I feel this way, I think of all the people that are chronically ill or going through chemotherapy. Every. Time. I wonder how they do it. I know my sickness will be short lived and even when going through it I am comforted by that thought. What thought comforts those who suffer from so much more? It hurts my heart.

I also tend to think about how, leading up to the illness, I was taken by complete surprise to the illness. What could I have done to prevent it? What could I have enjoyed before it happened? A yummy dinner? A long run? The ability to even clean up my home? So many things that I take for granted everyday are brought to my attention and I lament on the fact that I have not counted my blessings in a while.

I believe in the gift of repentance. Which is why I am grateful for the times in my life when things are tough. It brings to my attention the places in my life that are lacking the attention they deserve. I get to repent and do better the next day or the next hour or the next second.

Guess what happened the next day when I felt a million times better? Everyone else in my family got sick. Ha! But I got to have the energy that I was the lacking the day before and take care of my home and family again.

As my husband lamented his sickness and felt that he could not even attempt his century bike ride the next weekend, I told him not to worry. He would soon feel better like I did and return to the bike again!

Happy Monday Everyone!

Christmas Stocking Stuffer Ideas and more!!!

Does anyone else feel like this time of year can be pretty crazy? I know I can feel that way. One of the reasons is that I have the hardest time picking out gifts for my friends and family. I really want to get everyone something special! So to help you out I picked out some of my favorite things to give and get!

First lets talk stocking stuffers which I think could double as small gifts! Below you will find a few ideas that I love for teens and women! I put in a few collections like the lip+cheek collection from Maskcara Beauty because its such a good deal for 8 lip+cheek tins. Usually $12 a piece,  each tin is only $8.50 in the collection. Another really good holiday collection is the OPI Mini Nail Polishes from Ulta. I love the mini size because you can split them up to give multiple people multiple colors. Another collection I love is the L’Occitane hand cream collection from Sephora. Also an easy one to split up among friends. Bath Bombs from Lush are also at the tops of my list of things to give! So easy and everyone loves them!

Next Friday, I will post about my favorite neighbor gifts and maybe some new ones you haven’t thought of yet. I’ll give you sneak peak on a really cute idea from Pampered Chef distributor Alicia Jacobs.

These are Pampered Chef 1 cup prep bowls with Pampered Chef seasoning inside. You simply add mayo and sour cream to the seasoning and you have a great dip for a party. The bowls are dishwasher and microwave safe. What a handy and needed gift! You can go directly to her site and order the bowls and spices! But we will talk more next week as we gear up for Christmas gift giving!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Extremes of Beauty: How Maskcara has helped me stay right dag nab in the middle!

For years, I only had two makeup looks to choose from. Those two looks you say? Prom Queen vs Pan Handler. I was either “done up to high heaven” or “just rolled out of bed”. I actually think I chose “rolled out of bed” more often then not. Especially in college. Those were dark times.

Years ago, during my post 2nd baby time, I stumbled across a beauty blog through Pinterest. The blog was Here is the exact post that brought me there. Its a good one! Am I right? I could not get enough of these tips. Especially my post partum self-esteem could not get enough. It really needed a boost! My pants didn’t fit but I could fit into makeup!

I read all the posts! I tried the techniques with all sorts of brands and was loving the difference it made in my appearance. Even my husband began to notice a change. They were simple changes, like filling in my eyebrows, using a darker brown to contour the crease of my eye, using a bronzer to contour my face or concealing my under eye. Overall though, a very natural look. Which is why I kept coming back to the blog. I could do these looks!

Where is this all leading? To two side of the beauty spectrum.

In my opinion, the beauty world shows a very, very put together look most of the time! It’s an ideal that the majority of us just can’t quite get to without hours and hours of practice. Do I think it is bad? Absolutely not. If you have the desire, money and time to do it, go for it! This is one extreme of the spectrum. One that I could not do. Personally, the only time I dislike it is when it becomes an obsession that takes over ones every waking moment.

The other extreme I want to talk about is the “I refuse to wear makeup ever” extreme. I have come across this a lot in my time. It is not the people who say I don’t wear makeup or wear very little. It’s the people who say I won’t wear it. My theory is that those refusing are probably a direct result of the beauty obsessed people above. Don’t get me wrong. I am all about a being confident and feeling lovely without makeup. Which I definitely feel all women should believe and know to be true. I personally feel our differences and uniqueness (whether they be blemishes, sunspots, freckles, wrinkles, birth marks or what have you) make up a huge spectrum of lovely. I do understand the need to change those things and that’s all very personal. But I am telling you right now, I enjoy those differences.

So here comes the middle ground. Maskcara Beauty. This makeup saves me daily! I can be as put together as I would like to be or have time for. The best part is I put it on and forget about it. I don’t feel it on my face. The few times a day that I get a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I remember the look I was even going for that day. The other thing I love about sharing this makeup is seeing people faces literally light up with joy when they have found a makeup that is easy, quick and moderately inexpensive compared to other high-end brands.

Maskcara Beauty has changed my daily routine for the better. It has given me a beauty balance that I didn’t have before. Do I still look like a prom queen sometimes? Yes. About as often as I look like a Walking Dead character. For the most part, I look as lovely as I want to and I feel so much better about it!

Why I Love My Skin: Nighttime Skincare Routine

For a very long time, like majority of my teenage years and 20’s, I have struggled with being on top of my skin care.

Not until maybe 4 years ago, did I even remove my makeup before bed on a regular basis. Such a big no no! Guess what can cause larger pores, wrinkles and blemishes? Not getting all the makeup off!

I didn’t even know that I was supposed to exfoliate! Travesty! Haha!

I felt for a long time that there was this layer on my skin that I needed to get off but didn’t know how to do it. A chemical peal? Sure. Did that in January of this year and even though it was a very painful week of loosing facial skin, I would do it again. Maybe just once a year. It helped lighten my acne scarring of a previous summers blemish fest and overall brighten my skin.

Previously, I used a mechanical exfoliator of coffee grounds. I felt I had to be careful not to cause tears in my skin with this product because of how large the pieces were. It did a decent job. I actually really like it as a whole body exfoliator. Then I found Cure. Japan’s best selling skin product and water-based exfoliator. Supposedly gently enough for very sensitive skin. I use it once a week after I cleanse. More often, I use it just on my chin to help with milia.

My current favorite cleanser, toner and moisturizer are from Maskcara Beauty. A cleanser from a makeup brand? Yes that is correct! The whole skincare line was formulate by a milk scientist with natural lactic acid from actual skim milk. Lactic Acid is important because it is a calming agent that soothes and hydrates skin. More ingredients include Octal Stearate, which is an emollient that gives skin a soft, smooth, texture while preventing moisture loss. Jojoba Oil is also included in the formulation and is an oil found in nature that closely resembles that natural oil produced by skin. Perfect for dry or oily skin types, Jojoba Oil helps reduce the overproduction of oils, resulting in less breakouts. Extra virgin olive oil is an amazing anti-oxidant. Vitamin E blocks free radicals. Vitamin A helps in cell reproduction.

I can give you ingredients lists all day long but everyone really wants to see results. I will share just a few from fellow Maskcara Artists who have seen amazing results and not just with blemishes either. They have seen great success with a more even, brightened skin tone.

The great thing about all the products that come from Maskcara is if you don’t like it don’t keep it. A 30 day exchange/return policy keeps you safe from wasting your money. Trust me when I say, you more then likely will not need to!

For my skin, I have noticed blemishes disappear quicker then ever with this system! Yes! I still get them but very few and far in between.

Now, last but not least. Let’s talk about Tony Moly skincare masks. They are by far, the most affordable skin masks I have found and I think they work great. My skin always feels amazing after I use one. Of course it comes from another Asian company. If you didn’t know, a lot of Asian’s are obsessed with skin care. I am talking a 10-11 step routine every night! Not my style but using a mask 2-4 times a month has been a-okay with me! I also have a hilarious video on my group Facebook page Beth’s Beauty Bombshells VIP’s. It will go through exactly what you need to do to apply it and also make you laugh!

What are your skincare tricks? Post below. And let me know any questions you may have!

To be perfectly put together is overrated!

Lets talk for real, real.

There are demands upon us to do it all and to do it all now! It can be overwhelming and frankly, for me, debilitating. There is just no time for it all. What can we do to prioritize what needs to be done and not waste our time?

It is impossible to be perfect at every single thing but I don’t think it’s impossible to accomplish the things that are important to you. So am I finding ways to make the time for the things I deem important.

Time for my experiment.

Mornings are not my thing. Like at all! Any one of my family and friends can tell you I love a good sleep in. Chad especially. But things are changing. For the last two weeks, I have been (for more days then not) waking up earlier then my “8am! Crap I gotta get Kels to school!” wake up.

This early start has helped me have time to study spiritually, look through my social media and post to it, and get the house together with the help of my children before they are off to school.

I have known for a long time that it needs to be even earlier. Sometimes I need help with my goals and sometimes I don’t want to tell anyone for the fear of not completing my goal. I sucked up my pride and enlisted the help from the husband who is an avid early morning champion. Day 2 and our 4:15 alarm is in full gear.

Goals to accomplish:

1) Dive deeper into my spiritual studies.

2) Post to my social media accounts before the children awake or at least by 8am.

3) Restrict my social media perusings to only one hour in the morning, one hour in the afternoon and one hour at night. Does this seem like a lot? Maybe but a lot of the training I do involves some sort of social media. I need it but I need a balance more. No more being sucked into the rabbit hole.

4) Read an non fiction book every 2 weeks. Or listen on Audible.

My list is slim so far. Remember that feeling of overwhelm? I am trying to avoid that!

The biggest reason behind this change in mindset, is to focus on the things that matter. I have big goals to accomplish but I don’t want to sacrifice my family along the way.

What has worked for you? Have you found something to help you reach your goals? I would love to hear it!
